Guides

The whole job, in the order you'd do it. Each step shows what happens by itself and the little you do. Read the step you're on; skip the rest.

01
Start a takeoff
Drop the drawing set. The system reads it while you pour the coffee.
↳
02
Count the doors
The system finds them. You approve them faster than you could click them.
↳
03
Number doors for the submittal
Type the apartment once. Every click after that stamps the next door.
↳
04
Fill in the takeoff
The takeoff types like a spreadsheet. The schedule builds itself from it.
↳
05
Work the plan together
Notes live on the door. Red means unread. Everyone sees the same plan, live.
↳
06
Send it out
One link for counts. A name gets pricing — and you get receipts.
↳
07
Take it to the field
The plan is the map. Count doors with one thumb.

Common questions

Can I use Quoting.ai fully manually, without AI?

Yes. Every step works by hand — tag doors, type codes, fill the takeoff, share. AI is a layer on top, with three gears per account: Full, Assist, or Off.

What does the AI actually do?

Three layers, each one editable: it reads the drawing set (sheet titles, door codes, floors, scale), it finds doors and windows on the plans, and it pre-fills the review walk. Every AI result can be corrected, deleted, or re-run — nothing is locked.

Do I need an account to start a takeoff?

No. Drop a plan PDF and start counting — your machine keeps the takeoff. Signing in adds sync, teammates, and AI detection.

Can Quoting.ai count doors automatically?

Yes. On accounts with AI, detection starts as soon as a floor plan renders — you approve each find with one keystroke. Counting by hand is one click per door.

What's the difference between the takeoff and the schedule?

The takeoff is the table you fill — one row per door, with apartment, ID, and price. The schedule is generated automatically from the unique doors; you never fill it in.

What can I export?

An Excel workbook with the takeoff plus a floors × codes summary, a marked-up plan set PDF, and a priced proposal page you can send as a link.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — open the same takeoff on a phone and it becomes the field app: full-screen plan, one-thumb counting, floors on a drum. Every count syncs back to the office.

How do I stop the apartment numbering series?

Press Esc — it disarms the armed series. Esc peels one layer at a time: the series first, then tag mode, then the selection. Doors that already have numbers never renumber from a stray click.

What does undo (⌘Z) cover?

Tags and their fields — code, ID, apartment, review state — and line prices, up to 100 steps back, with Shift+⌘Z to redo. Floors, page types, and comments are edited in place and aren't on the undo stack.

One drawing sheet shows two floors — can I split it?

Yes. Right-click that floor in the strip beside the plan, choose 'Split this sheet into two floors', pick a left/right or top/bottom divider, and drag the grip to line it up. Each side then counts as its own floor, and moving the divider re-files the doors automatically.

What does a shared link show?

The bare link shows the live plan and counts, read-only. Send to a name to include pricing — and you get quiet open receipts back.
